Are You Ready? Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Health Information Resources for Families and the Community

In CE development. This class covers NLM disaster health information and other emergency preparedness resources for family, friends and caregivers. Resources for special populations and those with special needs are highlighted.  Audience: consumers, public and consumer health librarians, pre- hospital responders, health care professionals, first-responders or disaster preparedness administrators.

Caring for the Mind:  Providing Mental Health Information at Your Library

Responding to questions involving topics on mental health is challenging even for the most experienced librarian. In Caring for the Mind, participants will learn how to effectively provide mental health information at their libraries. Participants will learn about the best electronic resources to consult as well as ways to improve their print collections. Best approaches for handling interactions with emotional patrons will also be discussed. Other topics covered include: bibliotherapy; assessment/testing; and the future of mental health. ClinicalTrials.gov: Results Reporting, Unique Evidence, and the Role of Medical Librarians

ClinicalTrials.gov is the openly available federal registry and results database of publicly and privately funded clinical studies conducted in the United States and around the world. Disaster Health Information Sources:  The Basics

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the essential resources needed to provide health-related information services for supporting disaster mitigation, planning, response and recovery. This interactive, case-based class will cover key sources from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), federal and non-federal agencies, and international organizations. Disaster Planning in the Library and Beyond

This course has been developed as part of NN/LM’s Emergency Preparedness & Response Initiative.  The class examines strategies to assist librarians with preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies. From Beyond Our Borders:  Providing Health Information to Refugee Populations

Grants and Proposal Writing

This class is designed for beginning proposal writers.  It is designed to teach participants how to apply for funding opportunities. Health & Wellness @ the Library:  The Essentials of Providing Consumer Health Services

Health Literacy and its Importance to You

Are you curious as to why health literacy is important to you or anyone in the healthcare field? This introductory hands-on class will help you understand why this is an issue in healthcare. We will define health literacy today, identify various types of literacy, explore the impact health literacy plays in patient care and discuss how health literacy will affect healthcare in the future. We will also discuss your role in raising health literacy awareness in your organization and offer ideas on how this can be achieved. Health on the Range: Rural Health Issues and Resources

Evidence shows that there are marked health disparities between those living in rural areas versus their urban counterparts. Not only do rural residents suffer from higher incidence of chronic illness, they also have limited access to primary care services and are more likely to be uninsured or under-insured. Information Roles in Disaster Management

This course presents current research findings on librarians’ roles supporting the disaster workforce. The class also discusses the information needs of first responders, emergency managers, and other professionals working in the areas of disaster planning, response, and recovery. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on class content through tabletop exercises that simulate disaster scenarios and interactive activities. DOCLINE: Beginning DOCLINE

This class covers the bare essentials of DOCLINE. Participants will gain an understanding of the basic features of DOCLINE. The instructor will give an overview of the layout of the DOCLINE window and will provide a brief description of some of the most commonly used features and their functions.

DOCLINE: Routing Tables

This class will provide an in-depth look into DOCLINE Routing Tables. Participants will learn about using their Borrowing Preferences, brief explanation of copyright compliance, editing Routing Tables, M/A/N Map, setting up Lending Options, and more.

DOCLINE: Serial Holdings

This class will provide an in-depth look into DOCLINE's Serial Holdings. Participants will be provided with an introduction to the Serial Holdings database, how to add, remove, and update Holdings, how to run reports, and where to go to get additional Serial Holdings support.

DOCLINE: Borrowing and Lending

This class will provide an in-depth look into DOCLINE Borrowing and Lending. Participants will learn about: using their Borrowing Preferences; the many ways to borrow; how to process request received; how to run and view reports; the different levels of requests (normal, rush, and urgent patient care) and more.

Making PubMed Work for You

This class is intended to hone basic searching techniques and the ability to develop search strategies that will take advantage of the PubMed interface to MEDLINE.  It will be promoted to librarians and unaffiliated health professionals:  http://cech.mlanet.org/node/133 and http://nnlm.gov/training/work/

Measuring Your Impact:  Using Evaluation for Library Advocacy

Library users and stakeholders will recognize and value the importance of their library's services and of the librarian to the organization. That is the ultimate goal of this class. Patient Safety Resource Seminar:  Librarians on the Front Lines

Personal Genomics, Personalized Medicine, and You

PubMed and the Evidence-Based Universe

Running Your Hospital Library like a Business

To continue delivering support for clinical care, research and education, a hospital library must be run like a business. By participating in a series of four, 90-minute online classes, the MAR Hospital Advisory Group will develop your business sense. You will write a business plan that embraces the mission and objectives of your hospital. You will learn to be a convincing negotiator when you want to change practice after assessing the wants and needs of your customers. 10-Step Approach to Service Continuity Planning
